The Worst Accident
In the year 1979, Thai Railways experienced the worst accident. At Taling Chan, a commuter train collided with a cargo train killing almost 54 people. However, with the progress of science and technology, Thailand advanced in railways and tramways. In December 1999, Bangkok Elevated Railways was opened and was named Skytrain.
The latest breakthrough in the history of Thai Railways was the construction of the first Subway train. On July 3 2004, first Bangkok Subway Line was opened from Hualamphong to Bansgue. This was soon followed by the construction of the double line from Bang Sue to Bang Bamru.
